RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Lung Large cell neuroendocrine carcinoma (LCNEC) is a rare, aggressive, high-grade neuroendocrine carcinoma with a poor prognosis, mainly seen in elderly men. To date, we have found no studies on predictive models for LCNEC. METHODS: We extracted data from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database of confirmed LCNEC from 2010 to 2018. Univariate and multivariate Cox proportional risk regression analyses were used to identify independent risk factors, and then we constructed a novel nomogram and assessed the predictive effectiveness by receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves, calibration curves, and decision curve analysis (DCA). RESULTS: A total of 2546 patients with LCNEC were included, excluding those diagnosed with autopsy or death certificate, tumor, lymph node, metastasis (TNM) stage, tumor grade deficiency, etc., and finally, a total of 743 cases were included in the study. After univariate and multivariate analyses, we concluded that the independent risk factors were N stage, intrapulmonary metastasis, bone metastasis, brain metastasis, and surgical intervention. The results of ROC curves, calibration curves, and DCA in the training and validation groups confirmed that the nomogram could accurately predict the prognosis. CONCLUSIONS: The nomogram obtained from our study is expected to be a useful tool for personalized prognostic prediction of LCNEC patients, which may help in clinical decision-making.

RESUMO

BACKGROUD: Catatonia encompasses a group of severe psychomotor syndromes affecting patients' motor, speech, and complex behaviors. Common features include rigidity, reduced mobility, speech, sputum production, defecation, and eating. Risks associated with catatonia, such as increased muscle tension and reduced swallowing and coughing reflexes, along with risks from therapeutic approaches like prolonged bed rest and sedative drugs, can elevate the risk of aspiration pneumonia, severe pneumonia, and acute respiratory failure. These complications significantly impede catatonia treatment, leading to poor prognosis and jeopardizing patient safety. CASE DESCRIPTION: In this report, we present a case of catatonia complicated by severe pneumonia and respiratory failure, successfully managed with modified electroconvulsive therapy alongside tracheotomy. We hope this case provides valuable insights for psychiatrists encountering similar scenarios, facilitating the development of rational therapeutic strategies for prompt improvement of patient condition.

RESUMO

Background: Vitamin D is a crucial fat-soluble vitamin that has garnered significant attention due to its potential impact on respiratory health. It is noteworthy that many patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) often experience deficiencies or insufficiencies of vitamin D. To address this issue, our retrospective study aimed to explore the potential association between serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D concentration and the prognoses of COPD patients in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Methods: This study utilised data from the Medical Information Marketplace in Intensive Care IV (MIMIC-IV), a database of patients admitted to the Intensive Care Unit at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC) in the United States of America, with a focus on patients with a diagnosis of COPD. These patients were categorized into two groups: those who received vitamin D supplementation during their ICU stay and those who did not. We assessed in-hospital mortality and ICU mortality outcomes. Our analysis involved various analytical tools, including Kaplan-Meier survival curves, Cox proportional risk regression models, and subgroup analyses, to investigate the relationship between vitamin D supplementation and these outcomes. Additionally, we employed propensity-score matching (PSM) to enhance the reliability of our findings. Results: The study included a total of 3,203 COPD patients, with 587 in the vitamin D group and 2,616 in the no-vitamin D group. The Kaplan-Meier survival curve demonstrated a significant difference in survival probability between the two groups. After adjusting for potential confounders using Cox regression models, the vitamin D group exhibited a substantially lower risk of in-hospital and ICU mortalities compared to the no-vitamin D group. The hazard ratios for in-hospital and ICU mortalities in the vitamin D group were 1.7 (95% CI: 1.3, 2.3) and 1.8 (95% CI: 1.2, 2.6), respectively. Propensity-score matching (PSM) estimation yielded consistent results. Furthermore, in the subgroup analysis, female patients who received vitamin D supplementation showed a reduced risk of in-hospital mortality. Conclusion: The study suggests that vitamin D supplementation may be linked to a reduction in in-hospital and ICU mortalities among COPD patients in the ICU. Of particular note is the potential benefit observed in terms of in-hospital mortality, especially for female patients.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVES: Intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) is a serious public health problem with high mortality and morbidity. The current study aims to investigate the effects of rosiglitazone on the microglial distribution and the expression of PPARγ and CD36 in the ICH rat model. METHODS NEW: Sprague-Dawley male rats (n=116) were randomly divided into four groups: control, ICH, rosiglitazone, and PPARγ antagonist (GW9662). Hematoxylin-eosin staining was used to observe the brain edema in the ICH rat model. The effect of rosiglitazone on the expression of OX-42, a microglial marker, was evaluated by immunohistochemistry. Immunohistochemistry, quantitative real-time PCR, and western blot were utilized to assess the role of rosiglitazone in the expression of PPARγ and CD36. RESULTS: ICH rats exhibited a remarkable brain edema at 72 h. OX-42 expression was significantly increased in brain tissues of ICH rats. Rosiglitazone remarkably promoted the OX-42 expression in ICH rats, whereas GW9662 suppressed OX-42 expression. In addition, immunohistochemistry analysis showed that rosiglitazone markedly enhanced the expression of PPARγ and CD36 in brain tissues around the hematoma in ICH rats, while GW9662 inhibited their expression in ICH rats. Moreover, rosiglitazone significantly promoted the mRNA and protein expression of PPARγ and CD36 in the brain tissues of ICH rats, while GW9662 showed the opposite trend. CONCLUSION: Rosiglitazone may improve microglial distribution via promoting the expression of PPARγ and CD36 around the hematoma in the ICH rat model, which may provide effective therapeutic targets for the treatment of ICH.

RESUMO

Metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) affects approximately 25% of the world's population and has become a leading cause of chronic liver disease. In recent years, an increasing amount of data suggests that MASLD is associated with aging. As the population ages, age-related MASLD will become a major global health problem. Targeting an aging will become a new approach to the treatment of MASLD. This paper reviews the current studies on the role of aging-related factors and therapeutic targets in MASLD, including: Oxidative stress, autophagy, mitochondrial homeostasis, bile acid metabolism homeostasis, and dysbiosis. The aim is to identify effective therapeutic targets for age-related MASLD and its progression.

RESUMO

The northern Qaidam Basin has abundant coal and coalbed methane (CBM) resources, and quantitative evaluation of adsorption pore characteristics has great significance for optimum selection of CBM-favorable areas. Based on vitrinite reflectance, coal maceral, proximate analysis, low-temperature N2 adsorption, and methane isothermal adsorption experiments, the heterogeneities of adsorption pores (pore diameter <100 nm) were quantitatively characterized, and relationships between fractal dimensions and physical parameters of low-ranked coal reservoirs were revealed. The results show that the micropore volume percentage ranges between 33.70 and 86.44% with an average of 64.94%. Based on N2 adsorption/desorption curves and pore diameter distribution characteristics, the adsorption pore structures of low-ranked coals were divided into 3 types. According to the FHH model, fractal dimension D1 (relative pressure between 0 and 0.5) and D2 (relative pressure between 0.5 and 1) were calculated. Fractal dimension D1, representing adsorption pore surface area, ranges from 2.001 to 2.345, with lower values. Fractal dimension D2 (adsorption pore structure) is from 2.641 to 2.917, with relatively high values, which has a decreasing tendency from west to east in the study area. There are positive relationships between fractal dimension D1 and Langmuir volume and specific surface area, whereas negative correlations are found between fractal dimension D2 and Langmuir pressure, ash yield, moisture content, volatile content, and average pore diameter. Combined with the related data for middle- and high-rank coals, the characteristics of pore surface and methane adsorption capacity can be analyzed based on the variation of vitrinite reflectance. Furthermore, the complexity of pore structure can also be predicted according to the averaged pore size and micropore content to some degree.

RESUMO

Arsenic (As) is an abundant metalloid in marine environments, while the biogeochemical cycling of As in cold seeps remains poorly understood. We characterized the speciation of As and investigated controls of As distribution in cold seeps of South China Sea. High methane concentrations (0.2-5.5 mmol/L) and rapid sulfate depletion were observed in the seepage. Dissolved inorganic arsenic (DIAs) was enriched in the porewater ranging from 7.5 to 23.5 µg/L. As in the solid phase ranged from 2.9 to 22.6 µg/g, and sulfide mineral-bound As dominated the total arsenic (TAs) pool, followed by iron (manganese, aluminum) oxide-bound As. The significant correlations between porewater Fe2+ and DIAs reflect the controls of iron on DIAs release. Incubation experiments showed that adsorption to the solid phase and sulfate reduction activity affected the bioavailability and removal of DIAs, suggesting that multiple processes regulate the speciation and transformation of As in seep sediments.

RESUMO

Severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS)-coronavirus (CoV), Middle Eastern respiratory syndrome (MERS)-CoV, and SARS-CoV-2 have seriously threatened human life in the 21st century. Emerging and re-emerging ß-coronaviruses after the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) epidemic remain possible highly pathogenic agents that can endanger human health. Thus, pan-ß-coronavirus vaccine strategies to combat the upcoming dangers are urgently needed. In this study, four LNP-mRNA vaccines, named O, D, S, and M, targeting the spike protein of SARS-CoV-2 Omicron, Delta, SARS-CoV, and MERS-CoV, respectively, were synthesized and characterized for purity and integrity. All four LNP-mRNAs induced effective cellular and humoral immune responses against the corresponding spike protein antigens in mice. Furthermore, LNP-mRNA S and D induced neutralizing antibodies against SARS-CoV and SARS-CoV-2, which failed to cross-react with MERS-CoV. Subsequent evaluation of sequential and cocktail immunizations with LNP-mRNA O, D, S, and M effectively elicited broad immunity against SARS-CoV-2 variants, SARS-CoV, and MERS-CoV. A direct comparison of the sequential with cocktail regimens indicated that the cocktail vaccination strategy induced more potent neutralizing antibodies and T-cell responses against heterotypic viruses as well as broader antibody activity against pan-ß-coronaviruses. Overall, these results present a potential pan-ß-coronavirus vaccine strategy for improved preparedness prior to future coronavirus threats.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Spontaneous or non-traumatic bladder rupture is rare but can be life-threatening. Bladder rupture caused by a diverticulum is extremely rare, with only a few case reports in medical literature. CASE PRESENTATION: We report the case of a 32-year-old woman admitted to hospital complaints of abdominal pain, oliguria and ascites with no history of trauma. Laboratory tests revealed an elevated serum urea nitrogen(UN) level of 33.5 mmol/l and an elevated creatinine levels of 528 umol/l. X-ray cystography confirmed the rupture of a bladder diverticulum. Subsequent transurethral catheterization led to a prompt increase in urinary output, and serum creatinine level returned to 40 umol/l within 48 h. The patient was successfully treated with laparoscopic diverticulectomy. CONCLUSION: Clinicians should maintain a high level of suspicion for urinary bladder rupture in cases presenting with acute lower abdominal pain, urinary difficulties, and oliguria. When acute renal failure, complicated ascites, and an elevated peritoneal fluid creatinine or potassium level exceeding serum levels are observed, intraperitoneal urine leakage should be suspected without delay. This case emphasizes the importance of early diagnosis and intervention in managing this rare but serious condition.

RESUMO

Vascular cognitive impairment (VCI) is claimed as the second most common type of dementia after Alzheimer's disease (AD), in which hypertension is a critical inducer. Currently, hypertension-induced cognitive impairment lacks clinical treatments. Irbesartan is a long-acting angiotensin receptor antagonist with promising antihypertensive properties. Our research will focus on the potential function of Irbesartan on hypertension-induced cognitive impairment. Wistar-Kyoto (WKY) and spontaneously hypertensive (SHR) rats were orally dosed with normal saline or 20 mg/kg/day Irbesartan for 14 consecutive days, with 4 groups divided shown as below: WKY, Irbesartan, SHR, SHR+ Irbesartan. Firstly, the markedly increased systolic blood pressure observed in SHR rats was signally repressed by Irbesartan on Day 7 and 14 post-dosing. Moreover, notably decreased time of exploring the novel object in the object recognition task (ORT) test, elevated escape latency, and reduced time in the target quadrant in the Morris water maze (MWM) test were observed in SHR rats, which were prominently reversed by Irbesartan. Furthermore, the declined superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity, elevated malondialdehyde (MDA) level, increased cyclin-dependent kinase-5 (CDK5) activity, and enhanced protein level of p35/p25, p-Tau (pSer214)/Tau46, and brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) were memorably rescued by Irbesartan. Lastly, the activity of cAMP/cAMP response element binding protein (CREB) signaling in the hippocampus of SHR rats was markedly repressed, accompanied by an upregulation of phosphodiesterase 4B (PDE4B), which was observably rescued by Irbesartan. Collectively, Irbesartan protected against the hypertension-induced cognitive impairment in SHR rats by regulating the cAMP/CREB signaling.

RESUMO

Cytochrome P450 (CYP450)-catalyzed oxidative coupling is an efficient strategy for using simple building blocks to construct complex structural scaffolds of natural products. Among them, heterodimeric coupling between two different monomers is relatively scarce, and the corresponding CYP450s are largely undiscovered. In this study, we discovered a fungal CYP450 (CpsD) and its associated cps cluster from 37208 CYP450s of Pfam PF00067 family member database and subsequently identified a group of new skeleton indole piperazine alkaloids (campesines A-G) by combination of genome mining and heterologous synthesis. Importantly, CYP450 CpsD mainly catalyzes intermolecular oxidative heterocoupling of two different indole piperazine monomers to generate an unexpected 6/5/6/6/6/6/5/6 eight-ring scaffold through the formation of one C-C bond and two C-N bonds, illuminating its first dimerase role in this family of natural products. The proposed catalytic mechanism of CpsD was deeply investigated by diversified substrate derivatization. Moreover, dimeric campesine G shows good insecticidal activity against the global honeybee pest Galleria mellonella. Our study shows a representative example of discovering new skeleton monomeric and dimeric indole piperazine alkaloids from microbial resources, expands our knowledge of bond formation by CYP450s and supports further development of the newly discovered and engineered campesine family compounds as potential biopesticides.

RESUMO

To quantitatively characterize middle-high-ranked coal reservoirs, the physical characteristics of seven coal samples from the Huaibei Coalfield in northern China were investigated in detail based on experiments including proximate analysis, coal petrology, low-temperature nitrogen adsorption (LTNA), mercury intrusion porosimetry (MIP), nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), and methane isothermal adsorption. The results show that coal maceral in the Huaibei Coalfield is dominated by vitrinite, with a large change in the maximum vitrinite reflectance ranging from 0.7 to 2.5%. The various coal metamorphisms can be attributed to the combined influence of magmatic activities of the Tanlu and Taihang Mountains during the Yanshanian. The coal quality can be characterized by medium-high ash yield, low to very low sulfur content, low phosphorus, and medium-high calorific value. From low-ranked coals to medium-ranked coals, the volume of adsorption and seepage pores decreases but the fracture volume increases due to the stronger dehydration and coal matrix shrinkages. From medium-ranked coals to high-ranked coals, adsorption pores have a significant advantage, suggesting a stronger CH4 adsorption capacity. There is a positive correlation among the fixed carbon content, coal rank, and Langmuir volume, which can be attributed to the transformation of coal chemical composition and structure by coal metamorphism. The deep Xiaoxi in the Suixiao coal mining area, deep Nanping, deep Taoyuan-Qinan, deep Pengqiao, northern Zhuxianzhuang in the Suxian coal mining area, deep Renlou-Zhaoji, and Xutuan deep in the Linhuan mining area are predicted to be favorable areas for CBM exploration in the Huaibei Coalfield.

RESUMO

INTRODUCTION: Following the coronavirus disease pandemic, respiratory mucosal vaccines that elicit both mucosal and systemic immune responses have garnered increasing attention. However, human physiological characteristics pose significant challenges in the evaluation of mucosal immunity, which directly impedes the development and application of respiratory mucosal vaccines. AREAS COVERED: This study summarizes the characteristics of immune responses in the respiratory mucosa and reviews the current status and challenges in evaluating immune response to respiratory mucosal vaccines. EXPERT OPINION: Secretory Immunoglobulin A (S-IgA) is a major effector molecule at mucosal sites and a commonly used indicator for evaluating respiratory mucosal vaccines. However, the unique physiological structure of the respiratory tract pose significant challenges for the clinical collection and detection of S-IgA. Therefore, it is imperative to develop a sampling method with high collection efficiency and acceptance, a sensitive detection method, reference materials for mucosal antibodies, and to establish a threshold for S-IgA that correlates with clinical protection. Sample collection is even more challenging when evaluating mucosal cell immunity. Therefore, a mucosal cell sampling method with high operability and high tolerance should be established. Targets of the circulatory system capable of reflecting mucosal cellular immunity should also be explored.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVES: The aim of this study is to evaluate the diagnostic value of rapid on-site evaluation (ROSE) combined with computed tomography-guided percutaneous needle biopsy (CT-PNB) or radial endobronchial ultrasound-guided transbronchial lung biopsy (EBUS-TBLB) for pulmonary cryptococcosis (PC). METHODS: Clinical data of 33 patients diagnosed with PC at the Third Affiliated Hospital of Soochow University between February 2018 and June 2023 were retrospectively analysed. Patients were divided into the CT-PNB and EBUS-TBLB groups based on the intervention method, and the diagnostic positivity rate and incidence of complications were compared between the two groups. RESULTS: Compared with the final diagnosis, the positive diagnostic rates of ROSE, histopathology and serum CrAg of all patients were 81.8% (27/33), 72.7% (24/33) and 63.6% (21/33), respectively. The average turnaround times of the three methods were 0.1 (0.1-0.2) h, 96.0 (48.0-120.0) h and 7.8 (4.5-13.6) h, respectively (P < 0.001). The coincidence rate between histopathology and ROSE was 84.8% with a kappa value of 0.574. The positive diagnostic rate for PC was significantly higher in the CT-PNB group than in the EBUS-TBLB group (92.9% vs. 57.9%), and the difference was statistically significant (P < 0.05). Combined with the ROSE results, the positive diagnostic rate in the EBUS-TBLB group increased to 84.2% (16/19). CONCLUSION: ROSE has commendable accuracy and timeliness, and CT-PNB offers further advantages in this regard. ROSE enhances the diagnostic efficiency of EBUS-TBLB for PC and is safe and effective.

RESUMO

Tunnel-type vanadium oxides are promising cathodes for aqueous zinc ion batteries. However, unlike layer-type cathodes with adjustable layer distances, enhancing ion-transport kinetics in tunnels characterized by fixed sizes poses a considerable challenge. This study highlights that the macroscopic arrangement of the electrode crucially determines tunnel orientation, thereby influencing ion transport. By changing the material morphology, the tunnel orientation can be optimized to facilitate rapid ion diffusion. In a proof-of-concept demonstration, it is revealed that (00l) facets-dominated VO2 (B) nanobelts with dispersive morphology (VO2-D) tend to adopt a stacking pattern with directional ion transport along the c-axis on the electrode and guarantee fast ion diffusion. Compared with the aggregated sample (VO2-A) that tends to random arrangement on the electrode with isotropic and slow ion transfer behavior, the electrode featuring dispersive (00l) facets-dominated VO2 (B) nanobelts displays directional and fast ion diffusion behavior, thus exhibits an ultrahigh-rate performance (420.8 and 344.8 mAh g-1 at 0.1 and 10 A g-1, respectively) and long cycling stability (84.3% capacity retention under 5000 cycles at 10 A g-1). The results suggest that simultaneous manipulation of exposed crystal facet and morphology-related electrode arrangement should be promising for boosting the ion-transport kinetics in tunnel-type vanadium oxide cathodes.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: The delineation of clinical target volume (CTV) for primary nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) is currently controversial and the international guideline still recommend a uniform border for CTV regardless of the tumor extent. We conducted this prospective, real-world study to evaluate the clinical outcomes of our individualized CTV delineation method based on distance plus substructures. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We preliminarily investigated the local extension patterns of NPC on 354 newly diagnosed patients and defined the structures surrounding the nasopharynx as Level-1 to Level-4 substructures stratified by the risk of invasion. We then enrolled patients with newly diagnosed NPC without distant metastasis to investigate our individualized CTV delineation protocol. All patients received intensity modulated radiotherapy. CTV1 and CTV2 were prescribed doses of 60 Gy and 54 Gy in 30 âˆ¼ 33 fractions. The primary endpoint was local recurrence-free survival (LRFS); secondary endpoints included regional control and survival, estimated using the Kaplan-Meier method. The local failure patterns were also analyzed. RESULTS: From January 2008 to December 2012 and from January 2013 to September 2019, 356 and 648 patients were enrolled, named as training set and validation set, respectively. With a median follow-up of 104.6 (interquartile, 73.1-126.9) and 51.4 (39.5-78.5) months, 31 (8.7 %) and 38 (5.9 %) patients in training and validation sets experienced local recurrence, and the 5-year LRFS was 93.0 % and 93.2 %, respectively; 63 (17.7 %) and 39 (6 %) patients died in training and validation sets, and the 5-year overall survival (OS) was 88.5 % and 93.4 %, respectively. For the whole study cohort (N = 1004) with a median follow-up of 66.6 (41.5-98.0) months, the 5-year LRFS and OS was 93.2 % and 91.5 %. The grade 3 late toxicities included xerostomia, subcutaneous fibrosis, hearing impairment, trismus, visuality impairment and skin atrophy, with a total incidence of 1.5 %. Sixty-seven of 69 (97.1 %) local recurrence was in high-dose area. CONCLUSION: Our individualized CTV delineation method can achieve favorable local tumor control and long-term survival outcomes with acceptable late toxicities.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: The study aimed to explore the mechanism of artemisinin in treating primary Sjögren's syndrome (pSS) based on network pharmacology and experimental validation. METHODS: Relevant targets of the artemisinin and pSS-related targets were integrated by public databases online. An artemisinin-pSS network was constructed by Cytoscape. The genes of artemisinin regulating pSS were imported into STRING database to construct a protein-protein interaction (PPI) network in order to predict the key targets. The enrichment analyses were performed to predict the crucial mechanism and pathway of artemisinin against pSS. The active component of artemisinin underwent molecular docking with the key proteins. Artemisinin was administered intragastrically to SS-like NOD/Ltj mice to validate the efficacy and critical mechanisms. RESULTS: Network Pharmacology analysis revealed that artemisinin corresponded to 412 targets, and pSS related to 1495 genes. There were 40 intersection genes between artemisinin and pSS. KEGG indicated that therapeutic effects of artemisinin on pSS involves IL-17 signaling pathway, HIF-1 signaling pathway, apoptosis signaling pathway, Th17 cell differentiation, PI3K-Akt signaling pathway, and MAPK signaling pathway. Molecular docking results further showed that the artemisinin molecule had higher binding energy by combining with the key nodes in IL-17 signaling pathway. In vivo experiments suggested artemisinin can restored salivary gland secretory function and improve the level of glandular damage of NOD/Ltj mice. It contributed to the increase of regulatory T cells (Tregs) and the downregulated secretion of IL-17 in NOD/Ltj model. CONCLUSION: The treatment of pSS with artemisinin is closely related to modulating the balance of Tregs and Th17 cells via T cell differentiation.

RESUMO

Podocyte injury and loss are hallmarks of diabetic nephropathy (DN). However, the molecular mechanisms underlying these phenomena remain poorly understood. YAP (Yes-associated protein) is an important transcriptional coactivator that binds with various other transcription factors, including the TEAD family members (nuclear effectors of the Hippo pathway), that regulate cell proliferation, differentiation, and apoptosis. The present study found an increase in YAP phosphorylation at S127 of YAP and a reduction of nuclear YAP localization in podocytes of diabetic mouse and human kidneys, suggesting dysregulation of YAP may play a role in diabetic podocyte injury. Tamoxifen-inducible podocyte-specific Yap gene knockout mice (YappodKO) exhibited accelerated and worsened diabetic kidney injury. YAP inactivation decreased transcription factor WT1 expression with subsequent reduction of Tead1 and other well-known targets of WT1 in diabetic podocytes. Thus, our study not only sheds light on the pathophysiological roles of the Hippo pathway in diabetic podocyte injury but may also lead to the development of new therapeutic strategies to prevent and/or treat DN by targeting the Hippo signaling pathway.

RESUMO

Rechargeable aqueous zinc batteries are promising but hindered by unfavorable dendrite growth and side reactions on zinc anodes. In this study, we demonstrate a fast melting-solidification approach for effectively converting commercial Zn foils into single (002)-textured Zn featuring millimeter-sized grains. The melting process eliminates initial texture, residual stress, and grain size variations in diverse commercial Zn foils, guaranteeing the uniformity of commercial Zn foils into single (002)-textured Zn. The single (002)-texture ensures large-scale epitaxial and dense Zn deposition, while the reduction in grain boundaries significantly minimizes intergranular reactions. These features enable large grain single (002)-textured Zn shows planar and dense Zn deposition under harsh conditions (100 mA cm-2, 100 mAh cm-2), impressive reversibility in Zn||Zn symmetric cell (3280 h under 1 mA cm-2, 830 h under 10 mAh cm-2), and long cycling stability over 180 h with a high depth of discharge value of 75 %. This study successfully addresses the issue of uncontrollable texture formation in Zn foils following routine annealing treatments with temperatures below the Zn melting point. The findings of this study establish a highly efficient strategy for fabricating highly reversible single (002)-textured Zn anodes.

RESUMO

The formation of biofilm is one of the important factors for bacteria to develop drug-resistant. A series of halogenated-pyrroles or pyrazoles containing thiazole groups as antibacterial agents were designed and synthesized to target biofilms. Among them, compound 8c showed antibacterial activity against various Gram-positive bacteria, particularly against vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus faecalis (MIC ≤0.125 µg/mL). Additionally, this compound significantly inhibited biofilm formation of Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa at sub-MIC doses. Furthermore, compound 8c exhibited significantly lower mammalian cell toxicity compared to pyrrolomycin C and its hepatic microsomal metabolic stability in various species was also evaluated. Further experiment on the infection model of Galleria mellonella proved that the compound was effective in vivo.
